Prior to an offer of a placement being made, Coleg Eldiyr undertakes a comprehensive three-day residential assessment* of our suitability to meet individuals education and training needs.
Potential applicants stay on-site for two nights and have a timetable that includes attendance with existing students in education and training sessions. Parents / Carers meet with the Head of the Education or Trainee Programme as appropriate, a House Manager and Transitions Co-ordinator. During this time, individuals need for therapeutic interventions are assessed as appropriate by our multi-disciplinary therapeutic team. Education and training needs are assessed by Tutors and Learning Support Assistants and independence skills are assessed by House Managers and Support Workers.
A detailed Assessment Report is produced which informs the Colleges Admissions Group decision on whether an offer of a placement can be made.
The College Admissions Group comprises:
- The College CEO and Principal
- Transitions Co-ordinator
- Vice Principals
- Heads of Programmes and Head of Care.
If an offer is made, the Assessment Report will then be used as appropriate to inform funding applications with Local Authorities and /or the Welsh Government.
*potential applicants under the age of 18 years cannot be assessed through this residential assessment and instead staff from Coleg Elidyr undertake assessments of individuals in their existing School or College.
