Kerry - Support Worker

Working closely with residents to do the tasks that matter.

I work as a support worker at Elidyr Communities Trust, which means I’m side-by-side with people as they go about their day.

My typical day working at Elidyr Communities Trust

I support our people to carry essential tasks, such as personal care and preparing food (both with and without support). Also, I work alongside them, helping them to do the tasks that matter to them, such as working, exercise and going on outings. I’ve been trained in sign language, which allows me to communicate fluently with residents that are unable to speak verbally.

During the week I help support residents to complete personal care and make their breakfast before accompanying residents to work (which is located on site). The residents participate in a range of different work activities. Staff and residents will come back to the house for lunch. Then, they will return to work. After work has been completed, the residents and staff will return to the house.  In the evenings  during the week we all participate in various activities, such as go to the pub, go to the gym, games nights or pizza nights.

I’ll help to administer medication (which I’ve been trained to do) and support the residents in personal care in preparation for bed.

At the weekends we all participate in various activities, such as going to the beach, cycling or going to the cinema, it varies!

The best thing about working at Elidyr Communities Trust

The best part of my job is watching the progress that the residents are making.
